Having had My Fiat 128 prepared in 1974 by Trivellato, in 1977 that I bought the X1/9, I transplanted the applicable fast bits.
The engine produces around 135 bhp @ 7000 rpm
1580cc 86.4mm bore x 68mm stroke (Alquati crankshaft)
10.5:1 CR, 38 – 34mm slim stem/7mm valves (Lancia Fulvia HF),
Speedwell VA58 valve springs
Alquati 42-82-82-42 cam with 10.6mm lift (profile A – 16/1)
2 x 40 Weber DCNF carburetors with 33mm diffusers
Serra design-4 into 1 headers, custom remake+one-off silencer system by Stelios Panagiotaras (Popay)>
Unfortunately, some years ago my dear friend and mechanic Panos Mavidis died so I renewed my old relationship with D.Vourtsis, an excellent mechanic who had taken by storm the Zastava Yugo Greek championship with Nicolas Peratinos as driver.
He blueprinted my engine, ending much healthier and strong.
At the following photo you can see some details like the Alquati labeled – Bacci made – extra gearbox tail, housing the 5th gear. I remind, that the 1.3L X1/9 was never produced with a 5speed gearbox. What makes things more interesting, is the fact that this conversion was originally used on my Fiat 128 even earlier. An other detail you may spot if you have a trained eye, is the rear Addco anti-sway bar, attached to the chassis in a Vourtsian highly effective way. Details about these topics will follow soon.
Dimitri very nice blog. I am glad you are in good health and hope to see you soon.
Thank you Giorgo of the next generation fast car lovers…
Dimitris,
my compliments for the excellent elaboration.
I own two X1/9 (1300cc and Bertone 1500cc).
I am an enthusiastic of the DIY, for example, with the gearbox of the Fiat Regata, I have transformed the four gear in five gear (for the X1/9 1300, obviously). Also very fine your exaust system (4 to 1), do you have the muffle or the exaust is “opened”?
Again my compliments.
Danilo, from Trieste, Italy
Ciao Danilo,
Benvenutto al mio blog (OK, here I run out of Italian).
I really enjoy to have visitors with knowledge of the subject, so that we can talk on the same basis.
I actually have 2 almost identical exhaust systems like the one you see. The original was the American made SERRA, who unfortunately ane no longer in the business, and then I asked an exhaust artist friend to make me a stainless steel one, he could not improve the SERRA design, so he came up with this non SS copy of SERRA that I’m using now.
I also have a complete ANSA system I had fitted for a short time before I found the SERRA, with 4-2-1 manifold and megaphose style tail pipe, but of course this is a system for standard size ports.
I’m sending you fotos.
See you around
