Tuning Catalogs

I have various performance catalogs of companies that greatly promoted FIAT cars.   Most of them are like Alquati no longer operating, but this is usually the fate of single person’s efforts.

I will start with SERRA because many of his products were carefully designed and developed by him. I still have the SERRA made header and the one I use on my X1/9, is basically a reproduction of it. Next I will post the Serra catalog that includes the turbo conversions.

Εχω διάφορους καταλόγους βελτιώσεων απο εταιρείες που προώθησαν σε μεγάλο βαθμό τα ΦΙΑΤ. ΟΙ περισσότερες απ’αυτές, όπως και ο Αλκουάτι έχουν διακόψει δυστυχώς τη λειτουργία τους, αλλά αυτή είναι συνήθως η μοίρα προσπαθειών που βασίζονται σε ένα  και μόνο άτομο.

Θα ξεκινήσω από τον Σέρρα, γιατί πολλά από τα προϊόντα του ήταν δικού του – εμπνευσμένου σχεδιασμού, όπως η πολλαπλή εξαγωγής του που ακόμα έχω και που σ’αυτήν βασίστηκε το χταπόδι που φορά  σήμερα το Χ1/9 μου.  Προσεχώς θα δημοσιεύσω τον κατάλογο  του Σέρρα που περιλαμβάνει τα κιτ τούρμπο.

The pistons fitted to my X1/9 engine were bought from SMc by my friend Nicola Crea back in the 1990’s.  SNc  is no longer operative, but I don’t know when this happened.

MONTESA enduro H6 & H7

Mid ’80s I bought a used Montesa 250H6. From the same period I have the brochure of the H7 type. Great bikes which together with Bultacos, many riders have enjoyed.

BAKER – USA X1/9 conversion, Road&Track magazine, 1983

Although FAZA & BAYLESS had more interesting conversions with solid pedigree, both for street use & for competition , I only remember this X1/9 conversion published by the top USA automotive magazine:

Only recently I noticed on the last page of SERRA’s catalog, that Baker’s X was prepared by Serra…

In 1984 Baker started racing Corvettes , becoming a refference standard in Corvettes preparation, a reputation he still honors.

Camillo ALQUATI catalogs

Camillo ΑLQUATI catalogs PowerPoint –takes few minutes to load-

Mid ’70s – mid ’80s it was unthinkable for me not to pass from Alquati while visiting Italy.

Camillo Alquati in collaboration with other specialists was designing and fabricating the extensive range of tuning material he offered.

Both his daughter & son were present at their premises, and their hospitality was impressive. I still remember that Stefano send me to a near-by factory where I bought some X1/9 plastic parts & the specially made handbags that fitted the rear trunk of the X1/9.

I still have those catalogs and  it is strange I could not find them already on the net, because I consider them a good reference source for tuning and I wish Stefano would come up with the documented history of their firm.

Από τα μέσα του ’70 μέχρι τα μέσα του ’80 μου ήταν αδιανόητο να πάω στην Ιταλία και να μην περάσω από τον Αλκουάτι.

Ο Καμίλλο Αλκουάτι σε στενή συνεργασία με άλλους εξειδικευμένους κατασκευαστές σχεδίαζε, υλοποιούσε και διέθετε στην αγορά μία μεγάλη γκάμα βελτιωτικών ειδών.

Και τα 2 παιδιά του δούλευαν στην εμπορία της οικογένειας και εξυπηρετούσαν φιλικώτατα. Θυμάμαι ακόμα πως ο γιός του ο Στέφανος, με είχε στείλει συστημένον σ’ένα εργοστάσιο ν’αγοράσω τις 2 ειδικά φτιαγμένες για το Χ1/9 τσάντες καθώς και διάφορα πλαστικά ανταλλακτικά.

Έχω κρατήσει αυτούς τους καταλόγους και απορώ πραγματικά πώς δεν υπάρχουν ήδη στο διαδίκτυο, γιατί αποτελούν μιά εξαιρετική πηγή αναφοράς του χώρου των βελτιώσεων. Πάντα ελπίζω κάποια στιγμή ο Στέφανος να παρουσιάσει την ιστορία της φίρμας.
